Worked from home today

When you hear someone say that he's going to "work from home," you probably assume that he's going to sleep until about 10:00, check his blackberry or e-mail via Citrix, ask his secretary to have his calls transferred to his cell phone, and pretty much chill out in his pajamas for the rest of the day. As a big-firm attorney, however, I don't think that this is a fair assumption. There are many instances in which working from home can be far more productive than working in the office: people aren't constantly popping by to chat; the telephone isn't always distracting you by ringing off the hook; and you can spend time that would otherwise be lost commuting by getting an early jump on the morning. I like to think of telecommuting as a valuable tool, one that saves my firm and my clients expensive time and resources. So the next time you hear someone say that they're going to work from home, keep in mind that he's making an important contribution to the world economy in an efficient manner.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go put on some pants before the Dominos delivery man arrives.
