Happy Holidays, everybody!
OK, first we'd like to apologize for going AWOL for a little while. Pegs has been tied up every waking minute with The Hybrid, I've been excruciatingly busy at the office trying to finalize a bunch of deals before the end of the financial quarter, and we had to spend all weekend decorating the Christmas tree (see at right). As a result, we're all a little sleep-deprived here in the Alexanderpool household. For better or for worse, our priorities lately have been (1) The Hybrid, (2) work, (3) sleeping and eating, (4) the blog and (5) personal hygiene, in that order. Yeah, you do NOT want to smell Pegs right about now.
All excuses aside, we do understand that we have a commitment to you, our adoring and rabidly devoted readers, to provide you with regular, if not daily, updates as to the goings-on of our rapidly expanding household. As Damien put it in a moment of blog-deprived desperation shortly before being escorted back to the psych ward, Pegs and I are obligated to give you all something to look forward to in order to help you trudge through the tortuous, inexorable slog towards death that is your existence. We're going to do our best to help give you all a reason to live on a more consistent basis.
So, what's new with us? Pegs' mom (Yia Yia) came to stay with us a couple of weeks ago in order to help out with the apartment and the littlest Pool. Her arrival has certainly been a welcome one, as it has allowed Pegs to recover some of her strength and energy and allowed me to gorge myself on Greek cookies and rice pudding. Not everyone has been enthusiastic about the arrangement, however; every time that Pegs talks to Nik, Alexandra asks her when she's going to let Yia Yia come back to her house. I have a feeling that at our next visit to Philadelphia we're going to get a cold reception from Alex if we don't release Yia Yia soon....
The Hybrid is becoming a whale of a baby under the care of her mother and grandmother. Greeks like their babies big, and Sofia is not about to disappoint. At a visit to the pediatrician last week the little sumo tipped the scales at 4.83 kilos, or 10.6 pounds. That's right; our "little" baby weighed more than a good sized bowling ball at only five weeks of age. Fortunately, I've been blessed with ridiculously strong biceps and pectorals, so I'm able to carry her around without any problem. Pegs, however, needs to use a winch just to change her diapers.
In addition to getting bigger, The Hybrid is starting to become more alert and aware of her surroundings. She's really getting into contrasting colors and light now, which means that either her eyesight is starting to kick in or she's going through a bit of an Impressionist phase. She's also starting to smile intentionally now, which is really fun to watch, although she tends to do it when she's just farted or peed herself, which kind of creates a negative association for those who need to change her diapers. Her sleeping is also getting a bit more consistent, meaning that everyone else is able to catch up on their sleep, too.
Otherwise, we're all just trying to get through the end of this year with our sanity intact. We're heading to Lille tomorrow to celebrate Christmas with the French fam, and then we're heading back on an afternoon train on Tuesday so I can get ready to go to work on Wednesday. Fun!

Yay for the return of the blog! Merry Christmas you guys! If our presents for you have not arrived yet, then their on their way. You should hopefully get them upon returning to Paris.

Maybe it's just the pictures, but did Sophia's hair change? It looked so dark in the earlier pictures, but here she looks fairer. Did she lose her pretty chestnut locks?
