Punkin' Pickin'
- show up at the "farm" with your child and camera;
- pay $7 for the "hay ride" to the pumpkin field;
- wait in line for about 20 minutes for a tractor dragging a trailer with a trace of hay on the floor to pick you up;
- wait in line for about 20 minutes for a tractor dragging a trailer with a trace of hay on the floor to pick you up;
- get dropped off with dozens of other yuppies in the middle of a field about 200 yards from where you parked;
- spend the next 15-30 minutes selecting one or more pumpkins from the pre-cut, mostly bruised and overripe pumpkins that a "farmer" dumped in the field that morning;
- get back on the tractor for the return "hay ride" back to the "farm;"
- pay over $30 for said pumpkins;
- indulge child by buying $14 pumpkin pie;
- gain five pounds that week from eating said pie.
Next year, I think that we'll do our pumpkin picking at Wegmans; their selection is better, and their pumpkin cheesecake is out of this world. In any case, enjoy!
