Happy Birthday, Panagiota!

You almost certainly have this date already circled in red marker in your calendar (you know, the one with the picture of the funny cat hanging from the branch of a tree with the words "Just hang in there!" at the top?), but just in case it slipped your mind, today is Panagiota's birthday! Pegs likes to say that she doesn't really celebrate birthdays and that Greeks generally don't put much stock in them; name days are more important, apparently, but on my last name day no one baked me a cake or gave me any presents or hired a somewhat frightening clown to make giant balloon animals. At least, no one admitted to having hired him; he might have just been on day leave from the local mental hospital. I suspect, though, that Pegs still secretly gets a kick out of her birthday. At the very least, we know that once upon a time she used to get really into them; if a picture says a thousand words, here's a 3000 word argument to prove my point:

We'll be having a little shindig to celebrate Pegs' birthday once she gets back from Greece, and if you can make the trip you're all cordially invited. In the meantime, Pegs is having a piece of birthday baklava and isn't here for me to shower with birthday kisses. I know that she's probably still having a great time in Greece and isn't ready to give up all the sun and fresh fruit and sea, but I can't wait for my birthday girl to hurry up and come home. Happy birthday, babe; we love you.

Thanks everybody. Those pictures are from my 1st, 2nd and 3rd birthdays. And that was the last time I had a party. Just kidding, those weren't really parties. We just cut a cake with my sisters and Anna and Peggy, who are more like sisters than cousins. We lived in the apartment building that Anna and Peggy's parents owned. Five little girls had the run of the place. And we drove our mothers crazy. I think "make quiet" were my first words because that was what our mothers were yelling all the time. Why they never said it in Greek I will never understand. Good times.

So, this will be my first real birthday party! With a store bought cake and people who aren't related to me and clothes that aren't hand me downs from my four older female sisters/cousins. Yea me!
