Ponder this

When you say that someone "slept like a baby," you probably mean that he slept peacefully all night long and woke up feeling refreshed and well-rested the next morning. In my limited experience, however, babies startle easily, toss and turn constantly and only snooze for a few hours before they wake up screaming because they need their diapers changed.

So ponder this: the first time someone answered the question "How did you sleep last night?" with the phrase "I slept like a baby," was he politely trying to inform his host that he slept terribly and left a huge cornlog in their bed? 'Cause that would be, you know, a fairly political way to break that kind of news.
